James P. Dennis (D)
District 5, Town of Ulysses and portions of the Towns of Enfield and Ithaca
Jim Dennis came to the office with 13 years of experience in local government as a past member of the Ithaca Common Council, where he chaired every major committee and was acting mayor for two years. Dennis taught public school for 34 years and retired in 2004 from the Ithaca City School District. He has a special interest and experience in personnel issues. He is currently in his 10th year on the Legisalture and for the last five years has Chaired the Budget, Capital and Personnel Committee which oversees a review of the County’s employee policies and supports the County’s renewed commitment to workforce diversity and inclusion. He is also currently the Chair of the Industrial Developmpent Agency (TCIDA). As a Legislator, Dennis looks for ways to expand the real estate tax base and bring the kind of development to Tompkins County that produces living wage employment. Dennis is a 45 year resident of Tompkins County and lives in Trumansburg with his wife, Karen.
Legislators are elected and serve for four years. Current terms run from 2014 through 2017.
