Presentation to Focus on Child Care Needs at Next Health and Human Services Meeting

Wednesday, May 9, 2018

At the next meeting of the Tompkins County Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee, Legislators will hear about local child care needs from Sue Dale-Hall, director of the Child Development Council.

The meeting will be held Monday, May 14, beginning at 4 p.m., at County Legislature Chambers, located in the Governor Daniel D. Tompkins Building, 121 E. Court Street, Ithaca.

Noting that Tompkins County is experiencing a significant gap in the availability of child care, director Dale-Hall will explore one proposed way in which the shortage might be addressed—development of a network of Group Family Day Care homes, facilitated through efforts of a proposed part-time Child Care Developer position.

At the meeting, committee members will also consider recommending passage of proposed State legislation that would authorize Safe Consumption Spaces (also known as supervised injection facilities) as an emergency public health tool to combat overdose deaths.
