Legal and Financial Planning for LGBT Caregivers

Wednesday, January 28, 2015

A workshop on "Legal and Financial Planning for LGBT Caregivers” will be presented on Thursday, February 5 from 6:30 PM-8:00 PM at the Tompkins County Office for the Aging, 214 W. Martin Luther King Jr./State Street, Ithaca.

Mariette Geldenhuys, a local attorney, will address issues that become increasingly important when someone is incapacitated and needs someone to act on their behalf.  The workshop will focus in particular on how a couple’s legal status (married or unmarried) affects the responsibility to provide care and to make decisions on another’s behalf  as well as how it impacts eligibility for Medicaid coverage of long-term care expense.

The workshop is free and open to anyone interested in the topic.  Pre-register by calling David Stoyell at the Tompkins County Office for the Aging, 274-5492, or email
