BOE Voter Information and Registrations

To obtain a voter registration form:

1. Stop by our office at
   128 E. Buffalo Street
   Ithaca, NY 14850
    
2. Call 274-5521 to request a form be sent to you;
   
   OR
    
3. Print a voter registration form from the web; fill it out; sign and date it; then either mail it to us or bring it to our office at 128 E. Buffalo St., Ithaca, NY. You must have Adobe Acrobat on your computer to see this file. If you get a blank screen, click "refresh." Also, disabling anti-popup software may help. Be sure to click on the printer icon in the Adobe toolbar, not the browser toolbar. If you don't have the ability to print the form on legal paper, please fit to page before printing. 

Note: You cannot register to vote via e-mail, fax, or the internet.

Deadline Information:
You can turn in a registration form in person at your county Board of Elections on any normal business day. If you want to vote in an election, you must postmark or deliver the registration form to your county Board of Elections no later than 10 days before the election in which you want to vote. Your eligibility to vote will be based on the date you file this form.

Identification Requirements:
All new registrants must provide identification when they complete the registration form. Identification means a verifiable New York State Driver's license number. IF you do not have a NYS Driver's license then you can provide the last four digits of your Social Security number, as requested on the registration form. Otherwise you will be asked for ID when you vote.

To register, you must:

• Be a US citizen;
• Be 18 years old on or before the date of the election in which you intend to vote; and
• Not claim the right to vote elsewhere

New York State Felony Rules:
You may not register to vote if you are in prison for a felony conviction.

You can use a registration form to:

• Register to vote in the state of New York;
• Change your name/address since you last voted;
• Enroll in a political party or change your current enrollment.

In 1993 the National Voter Registration Act was passed allowing voter registration forms to also be available at several offices, such as Town or Village Clerks, Post Offices, School Offices, Party Chairpersons, Department of Motor Vehicles, and other State Agencies.

New York State Election Law Section 5-304.3
"A change of enrollment must be received by the Board of Elections not later than the last day of local registration before the General Election in order for it to be effective for the following year's Primary".
