Dear Community Member;

The T-Free Zone is a county-wide program to end exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke and fight tobacco addiction so that kids never start and smokers who want to quit can succeed. Please consider how you can be part of this voluntary effort.

The three goals of our program are: (1) keep the air smoke free, (2) support smokers who want to quit, and (3) help kids overcome pressures to start smoking.

Smokers who want to quit often have the odds stacked against them, discouraged by commonplace smoking in public places and heavy advertising and promotion for tobacco products in stores.

Youth face the same hurdles in their efforts to make the best choice for their future: to turn away from the visible social ‘norm’ of smoking and from the lure of tobacco marketing.

And almost everyone agrees that being around clouds of tobacco smoke—even outside—is unpleasant, unhealthy and dangerous, especially for children and those with asthma or allergies.

Here are some of the ways that you can be part of the T-Free program:

  1. Put a T-Free Zone sticker on your door to show support for the program, and to indicate a smoke free entryway for visitors and passers-by,
  2. Help us distribute information about quitting smoking (sample provided), and
  3. Complete our Pledge form to register your support for those actions you feel are important and appropriate.

Plus, a smoke free ‘norm’ will do more than protect basic health and safety: it will contribute to our community’s ‘curb appeal’, boost productivity, and help reduce health care costs.

Enclosed are T-Free Zone stickers, a sample of the quit smoking materials we can provide, and a pledge form to register your commitment to one or more aspects of the T-Free Zone program.

Your interest and support of the T-Free Zone program is very important, and your voluntary participation is appreciated. Please call me if you have any questions or comments.

With my sincere thanks,
