Comparing by workforce size

A preliminary review of surveys conducted at Tompkins County worksites suggests that the size of a workforce may have some bearing on worksite support for wellness. When the participating worksites are equally grouped by size — more than 125 employees and less that 125 employees — the group of larger organizations scored better in the physical activity category. In other words, it appears as though worksites with more employees tend to have more supports in place that encourage a physically active lifestyle.

Similarly, higher scores in the health screening category implies that employees at larger worksites may get more opportunities for blood pressure or cholesterol level checks. Most often regular on-site blood pressure or cholesterol screening clinics are the source of these opportunities.

Comparing by Industry and Wage

Scores for Tompkins County worksites averaged by industry sector did not differ from the overall average of all worksites surveyed. The average wage of employees did not prove to be a factor affecting worksite scores, either.
