Imagine Action!

Set your own goals for physical activity.


Imagine Action is a physical activity program designed to help you find ways to increase your level of physical activity. The program was developed by the Health Promotion Program, Tompkins County Health Department, and the Tompkins County Health Planning Council. Imagine Action logo 

On the whole, New York State residents are too sedentary. A sedentary lifestyle is known to be a major risk factor for developing cardiovascular disease, the most common cause of death in NY state. Imagine Action helps you find the best way to make physical activity a regular part of your lifestyle.



Find the best way for you to be more physically active.

Everyone can be active.

Physical activity is not just health clubs and aerobics.

Physical activity is also taking stairs instead of the elevator, parking to get a 5-minute walk to your destination, doing exercises or stretches at your desk, or taking a walk break instead of a coffee break.

Set your own goal.

Think about your day-to-day level of physical activity.

Now, imagine the highest level you could achieve at the end of a 6-week program. Your goal should be reasonable and achievable, yet with enough challenge to sustain your interest.

In Imagine Action you will keep a log of when you do some physical activity. Imagine Action has a point system to help you do this. For every 10 minutes of physical activity which is at least as strenuous as a brisk walk, you award yourself one point. You decide what should be your personal minimum point goal.

Keep track of your activity levels and your point totals for 6-weeks. Aim for points at least 4 days a week.

Plus, you can handle stress better, sleep better, gain strength, lift your spirits, and overall just feel better.
