Opportunity to Serve on the Tompkins County Board of Health

The Tompkins County Board of Health (BOH) has a City of Ithaca vacancy and invites interested parties to apply for membership. The Board has an interest in someone with restaurant experience, although it is not required.

The BOH is a volunteer board that serves as the governing body for the Health Department. The eight board members each serve six-year terms. The Board meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month, at noon for approximately one and a half hours at the Health Department, 55 Brown Road, Ithaca.

Under New York State Public Health Law, the BOH enacts regulations related to the preservation of life and health and confirms the violation of orders and regulations. The Board also oversees the department budget and approves department policy and procedures.

To indicate interest in serving on the Board of Health, applicants must complete an Advisory Board Application form by Monday, November 4, 2019. The form may be obtained from the County Legislature office, located at the Governor Daniel D. Tompkins Building (Old Court House), entrance is on the Dewitt Park side of the building, 121 E. Court Street, Ithaca, and is available for download at: http://tompkinscountyny.gov/files2/legislature/advisoryboard/application%20form.pdf

After the application is submitted, candidates may be interviewed prior to a recommendation to the Mayor and they must be approved by both the BOH and the County Legislature.  Minorities, women, individuals with disabilities and veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.
