On Friday, March 18 2022, the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office and the New York State Police held an inter-agency checkpoint.
Over 1,150 vehicles passed through the checkpoint which was held in the town of Ithaca on State Route 13 and Sandbank Road.
Four (4) individuals were arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Fifty eight (58) total traffic tickets were issued.
The checkpoint was part of ongoing efforts to target reckless and aggressive driving.
The Tompkins County community lost two lives this weekend in two separate fatal motor vehicle accidents. The Sheriff would like to remind the public to slow down, do not engage in distracted driving, wear safety belts and use appropriate child restraints.
