Department Mission

The mission of Tompkins County Department of Human Resources is to provide a full range of human resource support to our municipal employers, employees and residents of Tompkins County at the highest possible level of customer service.  We are committed to inclusion through diversity.

The activities involved in this mission are those of collective bargaining, recruitment, classification/compensation studies, benefits administration, employee relations, Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity (AA/EEO), staff development and training, discipline/terminations, performance assessment, and information management.

As the local civil service agency, Tompkins County Department of Human Resources conducts civil service examinations, establishes and maintains eligible lists, classifies positions, reviews and approves appointments and personnel changes, maintains employee roster records, certifies municipal payrolls, advises and counsels appointing authorities for all local government entities.
