 The Tompkins County Department of Planning and Sustainability, among its many duties, provides professional planning services to the County government regarding its properties, facilities and operations. This can include support to other County departments and agencies, including project management, issue research and analysis, and pursuing grant opportunities.

Current Projects

Airport Industrial/Business Park

Tompkins County is preparing a master plan and economic development strategy for a new industrial/business park located at the northwestern corner of the intersection of Warren Road and Cherry Road in the Town of Lansing. This project ill provide an opportunity to create a new business park that will utilize locaional advantages, provide additional markets for Tompkins County, create new jobs, and add to the local tax base. The Feasibility Study for the Ithaca-Tompkins Regional Airport Industrial/Business Park (25.4 MB) was completed in August 2016.

Old Library Site Redevelopment

Tompkins County is considering whether to sell or lease the Old Library property located at the corner of Cayuga Street and Court Street in the City of Ithaca for the purpose of redevelopment. The Old Library Committee, a special committee appointed by Michael Lane, Chair of the Legislature, is charged with conducting the review and recommending action on the site's future to the full Legislature.
