On March 5th, 2023 the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Town of Lansing for a reported cardiac arrest. Upon arrival, Deputies located a male deceased in the residence. The deceased was identified as Joseph F. West, age 71, of Ithaca NY. The death was reported to be an unattended death. An unattended death refers to a death where someone was found dead, and there were no witnesses to the death.
At this time, upon further investigation and analysis of available evidence, the death is being investigated as a suspicious death. The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office has been assisted in the investigation by the New York State Police, the Ithaca City Police Department, the Tompkins County DA’s Office and the Tompkins County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The investigation is ongoing and further details will be released when available and appropriate.
