March 9, 2026 - Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance Arrest

On March 9, 2026, at approximately 5:45 p.m., deputies from the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office were patrolling the area of Mecklenburg Road and Halseyville Road in the Town of Enfield.

 

During patrol, deputies observed a blue Chevrolet pickup truck parked at the Dandy Mini-Mart located at 2102 Mecklenburg Road with a passenger inside the vehicle who was suspected of having an active parole warrant. Deputies confirmed the warrant through the New York State eJustice system.

 

Deputies subsequently conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle at the intersection of Rothermich Road and Mecklenburg Road in the Town of Enfield. The passenger was detained and identified as James Kastenhuber, age 36, of Enfield, New York.

 

While investigating, deputies located a small baggie containing a crystal-like substance on Kastenhuber’s person. The substance was field tested and yielded a positive result for methamphetamine.

 

Kastenhuber was transported to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office where he was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, a Class A misdemeanor under New York State Penal Law.

 

Kastenhuber was subsequently turned over to the Tompkins County Jail on the active parole warrant and will be arraigned through the centralized arraignment process on the Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree charge.
