Published on January 10, 2026

On January 10, 2026, at approximately 6:21 p.m., Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a gray 2014 Buick Encore traveling westbound on Peruville Road in the Town of Lansing. The vehicle was observed failing to maintain its lane of travel, and deputies determined that the registered owner possessed a suspended New York State driver’s license.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Van Ostrand Road and Peruville Road in the Town of Lansing. The operator was identified as Diana Hayes, age 44, of Lansing, New York, who was confirmed to be the registered owner of the vehicle.

Further investigation revealed that Hayes was operating the vehicle with a suspended license. As a result, deputies arranged for the vehicle to be towed. During a vehicle inventory conducted prior to the tow, deputies discovered 49 folded wax paper tabs containing a white powdery substance. The substance was tested and determined to be cocaine.

Hayes was placed under arrest and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree. She was processed and subsequently turned over to the Tompkins County Corrections Division to await centralized arraignment.
