November 4, 2025 - Burglary Arrest

On November 4, 2025, at approximately 4:07 a.m., Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a dispute at a business located on North Street in the Village of Dryden. Deputies were advised that a suspect had forcibly entered the business and became physical with employees.

 

Upon arrival, deputies located the suspect near the business. The suspect, later identified as Jared Howson, age 34, of Massachusetts, was advised that he was being detained pending further investigation. When deputies attempted to detain Howson, he struck one of the deputies in the face.

 

Further investigation revealed that Howson had physically attacked two employees of the business and unlawfully entered a tractor trailer parked in the business lot, where he assaulted the driver who had been asleep inside.

 

Howson was arrested and charged with the following:
  • Burglary in the Second Degree (Class C Felony)
  • Burglary in the Third Degree (Class D Felony)
  • Two counts of Assault in the Third Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Obstruction of Governmental Administration (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Two counts of Harassment in the Second Degree (Violation)
Following his arrest, Howson was transported to Cayuga Medical Center for further evaluation.
