Office for the Aging relocating to Dutch Mill Road beginning July 20

The Tompkins County Office for the Aging (COFA) will begin serving clients from its new location at 31 Dutch Mill Road, Ithaca, beginning Monday, July 20, as part of the county's Center of Government project.
The move allows construction and renovation work to continue on the county's downtown campus while ensuring the Office for the Aging can continue providing services with minimal disruption.
"Our priority is making this move as smooth as possible for the older adults and caregivers we serve," said Lisa Monroe, Director of the Tompkins County Office for the Aging. "While our address is changing, our commitment to helping older adults remain healthy, independent, and connected to their community remains exactly the same. We appreciate everyone's patience during this transition and look forward to welcoming clients to our new office."
The Office for the Aging joins the Tompkins County Department of Assessment, which successfully relocated to the Dutch Mill Road campus in the Town of Lansing earlier this year. The move supports the county's ongoing Center of Government project, a multi-year investment to modernize county facilities, improve accessibility, preserve aging infrastructure, and create more efficient public service spaces for residents and employees.
Construction of the new Center of Government requires the temporary relocation of several county departments. As part of this effort, the Annex C building at 128 E. Buffalo Street, which currently houses the Board of Elections, will be deconstructed to make way for the new Center of Government building. To facilitate the transition, COFA is relocating to the Dutch Mill Road space, which enables the Board of Elections to move into COFA’s current downtown location, ensuring that county services remain accessible while construction progresses.
"The Center of Government project is about investing in facilities that will better serve our community for decades to come," said County Administrator Korsah Akumfi. "The successful transition of the Department of Assessment demonstrated that we can continue delivering excellent public service while these important improvements move forward. We are committed to ensuring Office for the Aging clients continue receiving the support they depend on throughout this transition."
The move will take place over several days in July. On July 16 and 17, the downtown office will be closed to in-person visitors while the move is completed. Staff will continue to answer phone calls and assist clients remotely on those days. Starting on July 20, COFA will reopen for normal operations at 31 Dutch Mill Road, Ithaca.
Although the office location is changing, the Office for the Aging's programs and services will continue without interruption. Clients are encouraged to call ahead at 607-274-5482 if they have questions about appointments or services during the transition.
The Dutch Mill Road office offers accessible parking, ADA-accessible facilities, and convenient access for visitors arriving by car. The county recognizes that the new location may require an adjustment for some clients and appreciates the community's patience during the transition.
