February 3, 2026 - Motor Vehicle Crash Leads to DWI Arrest

On February 3, 2026, at approximately 12:37 a.m., the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle crash on the 700 block of Peru Road in the Town of Groton. Deputies determined that a 2024 Subaru traveling southbound lost control on an icy patch and overturned in a roadside ditch.

The driver, identified as Jacob K. Becker Jr., age 38, of Groton, was the sole occupant and was found uninjured. Further investigation revealed Becker was highly intoxicated.

Becker was arrested and charged with:

Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (BAC of 0.18% or more)
Driving While Intoxicated
Unlicensed Operator
Failure to Use Designated Lane

He was released with appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in Town of Groton Court on March 9, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
