UPDATE:
The Sheriff's Office has identified the victims of a residential structure fire at 319 Lake Rd. (Town of Dryden):
Kayla Wood, age 37
Dennis Davis, age 47
It is also confirmed that two pet dogs perished. We will continue to investigate the cause and origin of the fire with the help of NYS Fire Investigators.
Our hearts are with the family, and everyone affected by this devastating fire. On behalf of the Sheriff's Office, we extend our deepest condolences. This is a heartbreaking loss for their families and our community.

On July 3, 2026, at approximately 12:21 a.m., deputies with the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 300 block of Lake Road in the Town of Dryden for a reported structure fire.
Upon arrival, deputies, along with members of the Dryden Fire Department and Dryden Ambulance, located the residents of the home. One victim was found deceased at the scene. Deputies assisted the responding fire departments as emergency operations continued.
A short time later, a second deceased victim was discovered inside the residence.
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office continues to work alongside the Dryden Fire Department, mutual aid fire departments, the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control, and other assisting agencies as the investigation remains ongoing.
Pending positive identification of the victims and notification of their family members, the identities of the deceased will not be released at this time.
This remains an active scene. The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office asks the public to avoid the area while emergency personnel continue their iinvestigation and operation.
