Published on May 04, 2026

On May 4, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., deputies with the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office observed a red Chevrolet Silverado traveling westbound on Mill Road in the Town of Caroline without license plates affixed to the vehicle.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop and identified the operator as 25-year-old Jessica Schermerhorn of Berkshire, New York. During the investigation, Schermerhorn admitted the vehicle was unregistered. Deputies also determined that her driver’s license was suspended.

Due to the suspended license status and the vehicle being unregistered, the vehicle was impounded. During a subsequent inventory of the vehicle, deputies located a crystal-like substance that later tested positive for methamphetamine.

Schermerhorn was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, a Class A misdemeanor. She was processed on the charge and additionally issued several vehicle and traffic summonses.

Schermerhorn is scheduled to appear in the Town of Caroline Court at a later date.
