Community engagement to be launched for Countywide Minimum Wage Study

Tompkins County is announcing the official launch of a community engagement process to support the county’s minimum wage study, beginning with a public convening on Tuesday, March 24 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the conference room at Tompkins County Whole Health, 55 Brown Road in Ithaca.

Alert: EH Seeks Information About a Dog Bite on S. Albany St. (Ithaca)

TCWH Environmental Health must locate a dog that bit a person yesterday, Monday, 3/16/2026, around 6:40 PM, on S. Albany St., Ithaca, heading towards W. Clinton St. The dog is described as a medium sized, estimated at between 30-40lbs, beige with short hair, and appeared to have short legs. When the bite occurred, it was dark and rainy, so there is no description of the owner. Call 607-274-6688.

Tompkins County proposes new construction of a 21,000 square feet emergency shelter serving adults who are homeless, with a particular focus on those facing significant barriers to accessing traditional shelters due to factors such as substance use, mental health issues, or past trauma. The proposed shelter will be located at 227 Cherry Street in Ithaca, the current site of the Code Blue shelter.

National Poison Prevention Awareness Week (March 15 – March 21)

In a poison emergency, every second counts. The Upstate New York Poison Center (our local call center, based in Syracuse, NY) advises the public to call the center, at any time of any day, by dialing 1-800-222-1222.

Assessment Department relocates to Dutch Mill Road beginning March 16

Tompkins County Administration announces that the Tompkins County Department of Assessment will begin operating from its new location at 31 Dutch Mill Road in Lansing, starting Monday, March 16, 2026. The department’s final day at the East Buffalo Street location will be Friday, March 13, 2026.

from the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office responded
to the William George Agency in the Town of Dryden for
a report that a staff member had been assaulted and
that three juvenile residents, two females and one
male, had absconded from the facility.
