Office for the Aging honors volunteers, advocates at annual luncheon

The Tompkins County Office for the Aging (COFA) celebrated the dedication and service of local volunteers during its Annual Luncheon, held on May 15 at Hotel Ithaca. More than 75 community members attended the event. The luncheon recognized individuals whose commitment to service has strengthened the lives of older adults and the broader Tompkins County community.

Health Alert: Rabid Bat Found at Upper Buttermilk Falls State Park

TCWH is reporting that a bat found next to the Lake Treman Trail (Upper Buttermilk Falls State Park, Ithaca, NY) on Sunday, May 31, 2026, was determined to be rabid by the New York State Rabies Laboratory. The rabies virus is a serious, potentially fatal disease.

Health Alert: Check for Ticks, Lyme Disease Prevention Month

May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month, and TCWH is alerting the community to be aware of the dangers of contracting Lyme Disease and other illnesses as a result of bites from ticks. Ticks have been reported to transmit over 7 different illnesses which can affect people of any age. Tick-borne disease symptoms vary by type of infection and can include fever, fatigue, headache, and rash.
