April 10, 2026 - Fatal Fire in Village of Groton

On April 10, 2026, at approximately 12:32 AM, Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Valley View Mobile Home Park in the Village of Groton for a reported structure fire.  Initial information indicated that at least one occupant was still inside the residence.

Upon arrival, the residence was fully engulfed. Deputies were advised that two individuals were inside. Groton Fire Department was already on scene.  Deputies assisted fire personnel in the extrication of one occupant through a window.

Both occupants of the residence ultimately died from the incident, including the individual who had been extricated.

Agencies assisting at the scene included Groton Fire and Ambulance, Dryden Fire and Ambulance, Bangs Ambulance, McLean Fire, Ithaca Airport Crash Fire Rescue, and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control.

The incident remains under investigation, and the names of those deceased are not being released at this time.
