Published on August 24, 2026

On August 24, 2026, at approximately 9:52 AM, Tompkins County Sheriff's Deputies, assisted by the New York State Police, responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the area of Dryden Road (State Route 13) near Irish Settlement Road.

Upon arrival, deputies located an Isuzu delivery truck that had left the roadway and come to rest in a stand of trees.  A Dodge Durango, which had been towing a trailer, was also involved in the incident.  The driver of the Isuzu was found unconscious and trapped inside the vehicle.

Through investigation and witness statements, deputies determined that the Isuzu delivery truck was traveling eastbound on Dryden Road when a trailer being towed westbound by a Dodge Durango began to fishtail.  The trailer crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane, where it was struck by the Isuzu.  Following the collision, the delivery truck lost control and struck a guide rail before leaving the roadway.

A witness traveling behind the Dodge Durango reported that the trailer began to swerve, crossed into oncoming traffic, and caused the collision.  The driver of the Isuzu was airlifted to a regional trauma center for treatment.

The trailer involved in the crash was carrying a lawn mower and was found to have unsafe tires, no valid registration, and no current inspection certificate. The trailer detached during the collision, and the Dodge Durango sustained no damage.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.
