February 4, 2026-Narcotics Arrest in Ithaca Following Joint Operation

Ithaca, NY – On February 4, 2026, the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the Ithaca Police Department and New York State Police, conducted a joint operation through the Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative.

 

During the operation, deputies observed a blue 2021 Mercedes committing multiple traffic infractions on Fourth Street in the City of Ithaca. The vehicle was stopped on Madison Street, and the operator and sole occupant was identified as Breon J. Brooks, age 34, of Cortland, NY.

 

A narcotics detection canine was deployed during the traffic stop and alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.  A subsequent search revealed:
  • 28 baggies of suspected crack cocaine (various sizes)
  • 10 baggies of suspected powder cocaine (various sizes)
  • Packaging materials and a scale
Brooks was charged with:
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree – Aggregate weight of a narcotic compound exceeding one-half ounce (Class B Felony)
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree – Narcotic Drug with Intent to Sell (Class B Felony)
Traffic citations were also issued. Brooks was transported to the Tompkins County Jail and is being held for an arraignment this evening in the Tompkins County Centralized Arraignment Court (CAP).

As with all criminal matters, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
