February 5, 2026 - Arrest Made in Burglary Spree Investigation

Published on February 05, 2026

Since November 3, 2025, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office has been conducting a lengthy investigation into a series of burglaries involving multiple storage facilities and individual storage units throughout Tompkins County.

As part of the investigation, investigators utilized Flock Safety technology to assist in developing a vehicle description associated with the incidents. During subsequent surveillance, on 02/05/2026, investigators observed a male subject inside a storage unit with a lock that had been cut off. The storage unit was confirmed not to belong to the subject.

Through investigative leads, including information developed with the assistance of Flock Safety technology, investigators identified and apprehended Jarrod C. Nickerson, age 36, of Lansing, NY.

Nickerson was charged with Burglary in the 3rd Degreea Class D felony. He was arraigned on 02/06/2026 in Tompkins County Centralized Arraignment (CAP Court) and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail on $20,000 cash bail to allow investigators time to continue their work.

On February 6, 2026, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, executed a search warrant at Nickerson’s residence. The search resulted in the recovery of several items previously reported stolen, along with a large quantity of additional suspected stolen property. Investigators are actively working to identify the rightful owners of the recovered items, which include household goods, tools, and family heirlooms believed to be valued in the thousands of dollars.

It is estimated that approximately 25 individuals or families were affected by this burglary spree, which was discovered to have spanned multiple counties.  The Criminal Investigative Division continues to catalog and match recovered property to victims, a process that is expected to take several weeks to complete. Upon completion of this work, additional charges are anticipated.

These are allegations only. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
