January 10, 2026 - Larceny Arrest

On January 10, 2026, at approximately 2:04 p.m., Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Ace Hardware, located at 2309 N. Triphammer Road in the Village of Lansing, for a reported larceny. Employees reported that two male individuals had stolen merchandise from the store and were last observed leaving the area on foot toward the Mobil Gas Station. Tompkins County Dispatch provided deputies with descriptions of the suspects.

 

Shortly thereafter, deputies observed two males matching the provided descriptions in front of the Ithaca Mall. Deputies conducted interviews with the individuals, spoke with Ace Hardware employees, and reviewed security footage from the store. As a result of the investigation, deputies arrested Joseph Thompson, age 23, of Ithaca, New York.

 

Thompson was charged with Petit Larceny and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree. He was processed and turned over to the Tompkins County Jail pending centralized arraignment.
