New York is a "closed" primary election state, which means voters must be enrolled in the party holding the primary election to be eligible to vote.

Saturday, February 14, 2026, is the last day for voters to change their political party to be eligible for the June 23, 2026, primary election.

The Board of Elections will be open that day at 128 E. Buffalo St. in downtown Ithaca from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Voters can also use the NYS Online Voter Registration (OVR) at tcgov.co/nysvoterreg to change their party enrollment. Any OVR changes made on February 14 will take effect immediately.

DMV online enrollment changes should be completed by February 12 to ensure they are processed in time.

At this time, we do not know which parties, if any, will hold primary elections.
