The National Weather Service in Binghamton forecasts a dangerously cold blast of arctic air arriving Friday night and persisting through the weekend. Wind chill readings could drop as low as minus 20 degrees early Saturday, creating a risk of frostbite and hypothermia for anyone outdoors without proper protection.

With a wind chill advisory in effect for Tompkins County, Food Scraps Recycling Drop Spots are canceled for Saturday, Feb. 7. Canceled locations include Danby, Dryden, East Hill Plaza, Groton, Lansing, Newfield, the Tompkins County Highway Department on Bostwick Road, and Trumansburg.

The Recycling and Solid Waste Center and the food scraps recycling drop-off area is planning to remain open as normal Saturday, Feb. 7.

Future updates will be posted at RecycleTompkins.org at least one hour before the scheduled opening. Residents are encouraged to check the website for updates before traveling to a drop spot.
