TCEH Seeks Information About a Dog Bite at Taughannock State Park TCWH EH must locate a dog that bit a person on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at approximately 10:30AM, in the North Point area of Taughannock State Park (1740 Taughannock Blvd, Trumansburg). The person was bit as they assisted in capturing a dog that had escaped the dog’s sitter.

Health Alert: Local Rise in Whooping Cough & Walking Pneumonia Cases (11/6/2024) Tompkins County Whole Health (TCWH) is alerting the community to a recent increase in the number of people becoming ill from two different bacterial respiratory illnesses: Pertussis (commonly known as Whooping Cough), and M. pneumoniae (commonly known as Walking Pneumonia).
Health Alert: E. coli Outbreak Linked to Organic Carrots (11/19/2024) Tompkins County Whole Health (TCWH) is alerting the community to a recall on multiple sizes and brands of organic whole and baby carrots which were sold at grocery stores in our region (including Wegmans, Trader Joe’s, Tops and GreenStar Food Co-op). The carrots have been linked to an outbreak of E. coli from bagged organic whole and baby carrots from a single supplier.
Health Alert: TCEH Seeks Info About a Dog Bite (11/12/2024) Tompkins County Whole Health’s Environmental Health Division (EH) must locate a dog that bit a person on Monday, November 11, 2024, at approximately 3:15 PM, near the UPS Store at 407 College Avenue, Ithaca. The person was bit on their hand and ankle when they retrieved a glove they had dropped. EH seeks to verify the biting dog’s vaccination status.
TCWH Celebrates One-Year Anniversary of the C.A.R.E. Team (11/4/2024) In August 2023, the C.A.R.E. At the July 15 meeting, legislators appointed Brittanie Earle to her new position as the Commissioner of Social Services. She brings over 15 years of experience in public service, with a strong foundation in both direct service and leadership roles across sectors, including residential foster care, the juvenile justice system, youth development, municipal government, and emergency crisis response.

Health Alert: TC EH Seeks Information About a Dog Bite at Dewitt Park

[Update: Case Resolved as of 4pm, 7/16/25] TCWH's EH must locate a dog that bit a person on Monday, July 14, 2025, at ~1PM, at Dewitt Park. The person was bit while walking through the park by a dog who was off leash. The biting dog was described as a white dog with brown spots, possibly a pit-bull or pittie mix. Anyone with information regarding this dog is urged to call EH at (607) 274-6688.

HABs Alert Harmful Algal Blooms in Tompkins County

Tompkins County Whole Health is alerting the community that cyanobacterial blooms, also known as Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs), have recently been reported in portions of Cayuga Lake. Monitoring is continuing. People recreating in and on the water should be aware of the potential for HABs in any waterbody they consider using. TCWH encourages residents and visitors to beware of HABs.

Fall 2025 Grant Applications Open for Tourism and Community Events

The Tompkins County Tourism Program is now accepting applications for the Fall 2025 funding round of two established grant programs designed to enhance the County's tourism sector and support community celebrations. Nearly $45,000 in total funding is available for this round, with funded activities required to take place between November 2025 and October 2026.
