Veterans Week 2026: November 8–14

The Tompkins County Legislature has proclaimed November 8–14, 2026, as Veterans Week, encouraging residents, businesses, and community organizations to recognize veterans’ service and support their needs.

This year’s proclamation highlights:

  • Service beyond the uniform. Veterans strengthen our community as leaders, educators, innovators, volunteers and neighbors.

  • Local connections and support. Veterans Services, the Tompkins County VA Clinic, Cornell Veterans House, and local veterans organizations help veterans and their families access care, benefits, and support.

  • Veterans Day, November 11. The observance marks the anniversary of the armistice that ended World War I and honors veterans across all branches of service.

  • Operation Greenlight. Shine a green light from an outside fixture or public-facing window to show veterans that they are seen, appreciated, and supported.

Operation Greenlight

Tompkins County Human Services Annex, home to the Department of Veterans ServicesFacilities belonging to Tompkins County and other municipalities, along with numerous homes, businesses, and institutions, will be lit with green lights during the week and month in support of Veterans across Tompkins County. Operation Greenlight, which is now observed nationwide, uses the color green to symbolize hope, renewal, and well-being. Find out more about Operation Greenlight.
