Health Alert: Prepare Now For The First Major Heat Wave of Summer

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch beginning Sunday at Noon and lasting through 8pm Wednesday.
Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values exceeding 100 degrees are expected. There will be little overnight relief with lows only dropping into the 70s in many locations, according to forecasters, increasing risk of heat-related illnesses significantly.

In addition, some wind will help send the ‘feels-like’ temperatures plunging to well below zero. Take necessary precautions to protect against frostbite and hypothermia when outdoors.

Tompkins County Emergency Response confirms multiple brush fires in the East Shore Drive area extending from Cayuga Heights Road to the City line near Stewart Park. The area remains completely shut down to traffic. Avoid the area. Multiple fire departments from Tompkins and surrounding counties are assisting. Emergency Response is encouraging the public to monitor Tompkins County SIREN for alerts

Tompkins County Announces New Mass Notification System SIREN

Tompkins County Department of Emergency Response has announced that Tompkins County SIREN is now available to all residents and will soon replace the current Swift911 mass notification system. Tompkins SIREN, or Safety & Incident Real-Time Emergency Notifications, is a free service that allows individuals to receive alerts sent from local authorities to stay informed in emergency situations.
